Best table of the week #1

This is com plenty opposite of the other posts i been doing. I will praise people for there great manners, tips, and attitude towards the serving staff as a whole. So as a server we generally read a table before we even say hello. We watch how people act to the people at the table and also how they treat the hostess as well. Its a good indication in how they will treat the serving staff and the staff a a whole.

I got a party of five and its a old couple who comes in first, i tell them about the special for happy hour and what specials are going on. They wanna get a beer and a margarita and i am more then happy to get them some alcohol. Having drinkers always puts a smile on my face, the restaurant i work at they look at selling liquor as really important. So if i can do that then i am happy as well, so my numbers are good and improving. The rest of there party comes and turns out everyone wants to drink which rocks. I am talking with the table and joking around. I treat tables i like, like family. I wanna have the good people come back and sit in my section and to keep always having good service and a good experience at the restaurant.

Taking all the orders and they are easy, no changes and the stuff they ordered is really easy and hard to mess up. I bring out there food, and ask if they want another round of drinks. A few people say yes and i go ring them in and bring out the re drinks and keep doing my job. Periodically checking drinks and how far they are on there food. I give them a few boxes, and offer dessert, no one takes it but i joke around saying they should do shots. Even tho the average at this table bust be about 75 and it doesn't bug me in the slightest to joke around with a cool table which i had.

Before the food was even taken one of the older ladies on the table asked if she could get the bill and the whole bill, she asked me in front of everyone and i said no problem. It comes time for the bill and i give it to the older lady who asked for it and i guess no one heard her ask me. One of the guys has his credit card in his hand asking for the bill, and i told them that the bill was already paid for. They all looked at me surprisingly and i tell them who paid for the bill. She tells her friends that they can do that tip but she is buying the bill. She ends up leaving me like $20 on $84 and i couldn't be more happy.

I love those tables are the perfect storm of being freaking cool. Drinkers with people not splitting food with even more people who tip good, it was the icing on the cake to a really cool table. I would serve them again in a heart beat, good people in that table for sure. I am so thankful for the good tables i have and wouldn't change them for the anything.

Worst table of the week #2

As a server we see a lot of things that average person doesn't see. This week the worst table of the week is kinda a crazy one to say the least. Nothing like last week with a huge party but the this week is about the utter cheapness of people that are in the world. I am at work in the closing spot on a wednesday night, and you know what that means "karaoke" fun right? Nope, too loud can't hear people and can't properly communicate with my tables. I try my hardest every day i work but this table utter disregard for what "my job" is blew my mind. It was a party of six, which isn't a big deal, its about the average size of the table i serve on a normal week. One of my friends was sitting on this table, even more do i think i am gonna get a good tip.

I do the normal things when you go to a table, tell them about the specials and start getting drink orders. I bring out all the drinks and i ask if all of them are ready. I go to the people who say they are ready and proceed to take there order as normal. Nothing really that unique about the table expect for the fact that this guy is chugging down Dr.peppers like a mad man. I am a server who likes to keep on top of the drinks i have on my table. Believing that food can't wait, but if you have a full drink you are far more likely to not worry about the wait. Due to the fact that it shows that the server is aware of the table and is checking on it on a regular basis. I take out there starters and check on my other tables just doing the "normal" thing.

Following there starters i bring out the mains and keep refilling drinks like i am used to without any problems arise. Everyone gets close to eating and as a good server i offer them dessert. No one takes the offer and i bring them to to go box's they asked for. Once i come back with the box's i ask how is the checks split if they are. They tell me, and i say "easy" ill be once second and if they would like a bag to carry there food in as well. I started getting busy at this time and i don't like to rush my customers at all. If a check is on the table but i can't see a card or cash i generally don't say anything due to the fact i don't wanna rush someone out the door, and the end result is that it could effect my tip. So my friends tap i grab for the simple fact i can see the card in the book. I run there card and keep dong what i normally do. One of the guys who was on my friends table hands me there check when i walk by. I run there card just like normal, but i got busy so i didn't have time to check the tips once i set them down.

O how i wish i was there to look them in the eye and look how i saw the tip, that the other guy gave me his table. Paid for him and three other people, so he must know that the bill is gonna be higher then normal for the fact that its not just his food.  My friend on the table tipped me good, and i am grateful, but his friend or who ever he was tipped so bad i was ready to blow. The guys tab who paid it was about $60 and guess the percentage he gave me? Nope not 15%, not even 20% he gave my $1,04 on $60 bucks. Lets just say i won't be serving that guy anytime soon. I have no problem not serving someone due to being cheap. I could understand if i messed up really bad. But nothing was wrong with the table. I hope karma catches up with this guy.

Worst table of the week #1

So this is a new segment i am starting filling that the other way i was doing it was abit too flat. I am hoping that this segment will be a popular one high lighting the amazing people i get to serve and also the horrific people as well. Please enjoy this new and refreshing look at the Restaurant rant that is going to be going on.

The worse table of the week is a table of 14 i had on a Saturday night. We where pretty slow on that Saturday which i am okay with due to i was working all day. The hostess sat me with them and the whole time i am just hoping it isn't going to be horrible. So, when i start doing what i normally do i head to the table and i get the drink orders and people are trying to tell me what order to go in. I told the table i am going around the table so i can keep everything in line, so none of the orders will be on the wrong number. A few of them laughed, which i don't see the purpose of that.

I go into the back to get the drinks and make sure i have all of them and in the right order so when i am hand them out i don't mess up a cherry Pepsi, with a regular one so i don't have to make a new one. It takes a bit more time but once its out its far easier. I go out to the table and set the tray on a empty table, and one of the guests ask if i need help. I said no, its okay i have them in a order and going to pass them out the same order in which i took the drinks orders. Once i get out the drinks i go to the first guy i took the drink order from, to keep everything in line. He seems completely dumbfounded that i started with him even tho i took his drink order first and people said that they where ready. I told him that i can always come back to him if he needs more time and its not a problem. He says OK and i move on. Later down the line a girl asked me if she can order off the kids menu i told her no she can't. I don't know why she asked that, in the first place. I am a guy who tries to follow all the rules and that doesn't set well with me. I tell her no and she changes her mind and gets the adult size instead of the child's once. As i am going through the table to take food orders the persons order i am taking orders for him and another guy and after he placed his order he asks if the food is "free". I tell him no, it doesn't say "soup kitchen" outside, now some people may think that is rude. But anyone who knows me will know i don't take myself too seriously i rather be extremely blunt and be honest then candy coat everything. Kinda a force of habit, and it gets either high praise or lets just say opposite of that.

As i am finishing up taking the orders of everyone at the table i go back to the original few guys who didn't know what they would like to get. I told them once they know they can let me know and i can get every ones else's meals started and if it was okay. They said that is okay and i processed to head to the computer to put the orders in. Once the order get puts in i do what i always do "check drinks" i am doing just that asking people if they would like a refill and i count up the drinks of what i need to make. Note while this is happening they are putting stuff in another drinks and just being overly loud, i was so glad i didn't have another table at this time. If i was in my section with another table as i guest i would just leave. I don't wanna hear some people acting childish when i go out to dinner. O the life of a server taking care of other peoples children. Some time passes and i get the remaining orders and put those into the system. The first wave of food comes out so i go through and double check the people who ordered first get there food first. I would fill bad if a someone ordered just a bit ago go someone food was waiting on it. Everything goes out good, and i asked them if they need anything else and i proceed to get what they need. The next round of food comes out and i take it to those people.

Other then the child like attitude it doesn't seem like a bad table right?  It doesn't really get bad intel i start handing out the checks. I print off the checks the same way on a big table as i have also done. I write the guest number on the top of the check as well to make it quick work finding the same number in the computer system. I hand out the checks and they keep asking if its "free" i say "no" again and proceed the hand out the rest of the checks. I also always put gratuity on the big tables because i feel at least get the 15 % and if people wanna add its easy to add. I start picking up the checks from people taking a good and separating them so they don't get mixed up so i can give the right change back. I start closing the table down and as always with big parties i print off a ticket with the remaining tabs still open so i can know if someone tries to skip out on the bill.

People tell me that some of the people need to go out to there cars to get more money and i said okay no worries, i just need someone to stay at the front tho just in case. I always try to have everyone stay just in case someone doesn't pay there tab, because i am for sure not buying someones meal what so ever. I get everyone cashed out and they leave. And some of the people on there tabs tried to scratch out the gratuity and write in no tip. I don't do that, i took a big party and gratuity isn't a opinion its forced tip so i don't get screwed on rude people, or cheap people in this case. I put in all the gratuity plus grab the few extra pennies they left me. No joke they left pennies on the table. So i get the whole table cleaned off with the help of the hostess, and i go to the bartender and i tell her that i am glad that table is gone. She then tells me that she was told by them that i was rude and that is why they didn't tip me good. Also note one of the guys on the table used to come in and get to go stuff and not tip anything. We all know who he is, put we have to play it off. I tell her that the table was rude and kept asking for free stuff there was a few good people but the bulk of the table was filled with some less then desirable.

I just find it so crazy that someone can defend someone who get treated like shit them self. And a seerver slash bartender is okay with them not tipping me. And this has happend more then once with her, she says she knows the table and i always end up getting a horrible tip. Even once she came in for to go stuff while she worked at her other job. The server that did her order came to me, and asked me if its common for the servers not to tip her on to go's due to she was new. I told her it should be opposite they should tip you more due to they work here. Well in my eyes trying to do my job and not giving away "free stuff" is a good thing. Good thing they left, i hate those tables that just like to complain to try and get free stuff because they can't afforded the stuff they order. A giant waste of time if i say so myself, but hey i am not the manager. I don't think that a restaurant should have to sit there and suck up to guests by buying them someone especially if the table is filled with low life's that where scratching the money to pay there bill and then what favors handed out to them. O what a backwards world we live in don't we, I hope i never have to serve those catzo's again.
